Installation on Windows

CaraVR is distributed as a software download from our website. To install CaraVR on a computer running Windows, follow these instructions:

Note:  Throughout the following instructions, replace <version> with the Nuke release you're using.

1.   Download the following file from our website at www.foundry.com/products/cara-vr:

CaraVR_2.0v2_Nuke_<version>-win-x86-release-64.zip

2.   Unzip the file you downloaded.
3.   Double-click on the .exe file to launch the installer. Follow the on-screen instructions to install CaraVR.
4.   Proceed to Licensing.

Installing CaraVR from the Command Line

To install CaraVR from the command line, do the following:

Note:  Throughout the following instructions, replace <version> with the Nuke release you're using.

1.   Download and unzip the following file from our website at www.foundry.com/products/cara-vr:

CaraVR_2.0v2_Nuke_<version>-win-x86-release-64.zip

2.   To open a command prompt window, select Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
3.   Use the cd (change directory) command to move to the directory where you saved the installation file. For example, if you saved the installation file in C:\Temp, use the following command and press Return:

cd \Temp

4.   To install CaraVR, do one of the following:

To install CaraVR and display the installation dialog, type the name of the install file without the file extension and press Return:

CaraVR_2.0v2_Nuke_<version>-win-x86-release-64

To install CaraVR silently so that the installer does not prompt you for anything but displays a progress bar, enter /silent after the installation command:

CaraVR_2.0v2_Nuke_<version>-win-x86-release-64 /silent

To install CaraVR silently so that nothing is displayed, enter /verysilent after the installation command:

CaraVR_2.0v2_Nuke_<version>-win-x86-release-64 /verysilent

Note:  By running either of the silent installs of CaraVR, you agree to the terms of the End User License Agreement. To see this agreement, refer to End User License Agreement or run the installer in standard, non-silent mode.

Installing Oculus Rift

Windows support for Oculus Rift DK2 and CV1 requires you to install SDK version 1.3. The SDK is installed as part of the Oculus Setup procedure. Refer to the accompanying documentation supplied by Oculus.

For the full Rift experience, Oculus recommend the following system:

NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater

Intel i5-6400 equivalent or greater

8 GB+ RAM

Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output

sensor and 1x USB 2.0 port

Windows 7 SP1 64-bit or newer, plus the DirectX platform update

The latest Oculus drivers come with the Oculus Setup utility, available here: https://www3.oculus.com/en-us/setup/

Installing HTC Vive

Windows support for the HTC Vive requires that you install Steam and SteamVR as well as some additional hardware. Refer to the following setup procedure for more information http://www.vive.com/us/setup/

For the full Vive experience, Steam recommend the following:

NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 970 / AMD Radeon™ R9 290 equivalent or greater

Intel® i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350 equivalent or greater
