Bridging between Katana Geolib and USD
Tools have been introduced to help you integrate Katana Geolib and USD in your projects in a versatile way. If you are not fully set up for native USD, you may need to make exports and conversations as you go. Although Katana will allow you to work with both Geolib and USD at the same time, and make the required conversions on the way to the Hydra Viewer or the render, these tools bring added flexibility:
• The UsdToKatana node lets you convert USD data into Katana data so that you can continue to work with Katana’s Geolib nodes. Additionally, the KatanaToUsd node converts Katana data to USD, allowing you to seamlessly “round-trip”. These nodes allow for this conversion to happen directly within a Katana project, without the need to bake them out and read them in. See Conversion nodes - KatanaToUsd/ UsdToKatana.
• UsdMaterialBake offers a versatile framework for exporting materials and lights.
• Native USD Layer Export enables you to export directly from native USD.
This diagram shows a visual representation of the conversions between USD and Katana Geolib using these tools.
