Smooth Step node
Access: Nodes > Math > Smooth Step
Cubic S-curve ramp from 0 to 1 between Edge0 and Edge1, with zero slope at both edges. Useful for effects such as chipped paint thresholds and decal fading.
The below examples assume that Edge0 = 0.0 and Edge1 = 1.0
| Input (RGB) | Output (RGB) |
| -0.2, -0.2, -0.2 | 0.0, 0.0, 0.0 (clamped below Edge0) |
| 0.5, 0.5, 0.5 | 0.5, 0.5, 0.5 |
| 1.2, 1.2, 1.2 | 1.0, 1.0, 1.0 (clamped above Edge1) |
Smooth Step node inputs
| Edge0 |
The lower bound threshold where the transition begins. |
| Edge1 |
The upper bound threshold where the transition completes. |
|
Input |
The input value to be interpolated. |
Smooth Step node outputs
|
Output |
The cubic Hermite S-curve interpolation from 0 to 1 across the range Edge0 … Edge1. The curve has zero slope at both edges.
Values below Edge0 output 0; values above Edge1 output 1. |
