Sequencer Panel

The Sequencer panel enables you to add new sequences into your project. It is possible to sequence most properties in Nuke Stage.

The most common use of this feature is to sequence node properties within any node graph. This enables you to animate certain elements and have precise control over your scene.

Creating a Sequencer Track

There are a few different ways to create a sequencer track for your scene.

From an Object Property

Click the Keyframe icon () next to any object property that can be animated in the Properties panel.

  • Gray, no circle (): the property has no track in the sequencer.
  • Gray with a white circle (): the property has a sequencer track, but has no keyframes
  • Orange (): the property has a track and keyframes.

Note:  If a property can't be animated, it won't have the keyframe icon next to it.

Middle-mouse drag a property label from your object (e.g. camera or node) directly into a sequence in the Sequencer (ensure you have a sequence already created before dropping the property in). This will create a track for that property that you can start keying and animating.

Empty track

To create an empty track, you can use the following methods:

Click the Add Property Track button on the Sequencer panel toolbar (). Alternatively, right-click in the Sequencer panel tree view or timeline and select Add Track > Property track. You can then use the track’s properties to define its Target object, Target Property and Target element, or middle-mouse drag an object from the Project Graph into the Target object dropdown.

Click the Add Group Track button on the Sequencer panel toolbar (). Alternatively, right-click in the Sequencer panel tree view or timeline and select Add Track > Group track. Group tracks are used to organize other tracks.

Note:  Group tracks cannot be keyframed.

For more information on Keyframes, go to Keyframing.

Creating a Sequencer Clip Track

The Sequencer can also be used to sequence images, using clips. This enables you to edit and structure content from a Read node. Image clips can be re-timed, repeated, trimmed or re-targeted. Read more about clips at Using Clips.

To create a Clip track from a Read node:

Click on the Add clip icon () to create a new clip track.

Drag the Read Path property directly into the sequencer panel and a clip track will be created.

Tracks are visible in the node tree-view on the left of the sequencer. You can choose to hide/ re-open this display by clicking the Show tree view icon ().

You can access the sequencer tracks for each node’s parameters from the Sequence workspace tab through the Properties panel.

Sequencer Controls

There are controls in the Sequencer panel that enable you to edit and manage your animated content. The below table outlines:

Sequencer tools, Content tools, State editor and Playback controls - found on the left side of the sequencer frame.

Timeline controls - found in the sequencer timeline.

Property tracks - found when interacting with the tree-view list of tracks.

Right-click context menu - found by right-clicking in the Sequencer frame. Include many shortcut settings.

Keyboard shortcuts:

  • Ctrl+scroll to zoom in/out. Also works on the timeline. Alternatively use Alt+middle-mouse button and drag.
  • Middle-mouse drag on the background to pan in frametime, or use horizontal mouse wheel if you have one.

  • Left/right arrows to step frametime left and right.

  • Alt+left/right to jump to the prev/next cue/keyframe if one is selected.

  • F to fit the view to whatever is selected, or to the frame range if there is no selection.

  • Ctrl+A to select everything.

  • Ctrl+Shift+A to select everything that is visible at the current zoom level.

  • L/M/S to toggle lock / mute / solo for the track under the mouse.

  • K to add keyframe to your track.

  • V to cycle curve mode for the track under the mouse (only relevant to keyframed tracks).

  • I to cycle interpolation mode for the selected keyframes on the track under the mouse.

Sequencer Tools

Tool selection

Cycle between Multi-tool, Select, Move and Trim.

Multitool - Combines selection, moving and clip trimming. Click on clips, cues, keyframes or track bodies to select them, or click and drag in empty space to marquee select. Click and drag on an object to reposition it in frametime. Click and drag on the start or end of a clip to trim it.

Select - Click on clips, cues, keyframes or track bodies to select them, or click and drag to marquee select.

Move - Click and drag on clips, cues, keyframes or track bodies to reposition them in frametime, or adjust keyframe values. Either frametime or value will be modified, depending on initial direction of the drag: hold Ctrl to allow editing both at once.

Trim - Click and drag on the start or end of a clip to adjust the portion of its overall frame range that will be played. A clip cannot be extended past its maximum frame range, and cannot overlap adjacent clips.

The keyboard shortcut for this tool is Q.

Razor

Click on a clip to split it in two independent clips, or move the playhead and press C over the clip to split. Hold Alt to toggle splitting all clips at the selected frametime.

Click between:

Razor - Razor the clip you click on.

Razor all - Razor all clips that cover the frametime you click at. If Alt is held in this mode, it will change back to Razor mode.

Razor join - Connect adjacent split clips. Won't work if there is a gap between the clips, or if the clips have different patterns.

The keyboard shortcut for this tool is W.

Tip:  Click Esc before releasing the mouse to cancel a split/erase.

Slip

Click and drag on a clip to shift the contents of a clip forwards or backwards in time, while keeping the clip at the same position in the sequence.

The keyboard shortcut for this tool is E.

Retime

Click and drag on the start or end of a clip to adjust its playback speed. The number of frames used from the sequence will remain constant, but the frametime the clip covers will change.
