HDR setup for Nuke Stage
The settings below outline a HDR configuration for Nuke Stage and your LED processor. This example uses a Brompton to demonstrate the workflow.
Setting up an HDR output in Nuke Stage
The following settings can be accessed at Project Graph > Hardware.
| 1. | In Project Graph > Hardware > Outputs > Parameters > Advanced: |
• Ensure Enable HDR is checked.
Note: This must be enabled before connecting the output to the RenderNode (done in the Application property) If the output is already connected, restart the RenderNode for the change to take effect.
| 2. | In Project Graph > Hardware > OCIO, enable Global display-view Transform, and use the Display-View transform dropdown property to select the transform appropriate for the target HDR display. |
For this example we will use Rec.2020 – PQ – Display | ACES 1.1 – HDR Video (1000 nits & Rec.2020 lim)
An output transform like this should be considered a starting point for the current HDR configuration. It may eventually be replaced by the calculated output transform for the specific camera/wall configuration.
The working colorspace does not need to match the HDR output colorspace and does not need to be linear simply because the output is HDR.
Setting up HDR in the NVIDIA Control Panel
In NVIDIA Control Panel > Change Resolution, configure the display as follows:
| Use NVIDIA colour settings | Enabled |
| Output colour depth | 10-bit |
| Output colour format | RGB |
| Output dynamic range | Full |
Processor Settings
The processor must be configured to specify a matching HDR input format, as Nuke Stage does not transmit HDR metadata with the video signal. The processor therefore needs to be manually configured to interpret the incoming signal correctly.
For example, the below shows the settings needed with a Brompton Tessera processor.
Brompton
The Brompton input HDR format and Colour space should match the signal being sent from Nuke Stage.
In this example, the Nuke Stage output uses PQ as the HDR transfer function and Rec.2020 as the colour space, corresponding to the output transform:
Rec.2020 – PQ – Display | ACES 1.1 – HDR Video (1000 nits & Rec.2020 lim)
In Tessera:
• Change the settings for the HDMI input:
- Colour format: From Input. Should be getting RGB from the input
- Quantisation range: From Input. Should be getting Full from the input
- HDR format: PQ
- Colour space: Rec.2020
