Nuke Timeline Loader

The Nuke Timeline Loader is a customizable Python template to facilitate integration between Foundry Nuke Timeline Tools and Autodesk Flow Production Tracking in a studio pipeline. This is compatible with Nuke Studio, Hiero, and HieroPlayer.

This API implementation template serves as an example integration for TDs (Technical Directors) or pipeline developers. Designed to be tailored to any studio’s pipeline, the template is intended to accelerate the building of critical parts of a bespoke user-facing content review solution for VFX and animation studios.

Foundry has made this template source code freely available to studios using Nuke Timeline Tools, via GitHub.

Here’s a video walkthrough of the user experience.

Studios can customize this template to their specific needs before integrating into their pipeline.

Creating a custom integration can enhance complex review workflows across teams: with the ability to import playlists and cuts to the Nuke Studio, Hiero, and HieroPlayer timeline, update shot statuses, review notes, create annotations, before syncing session activity back to Autodesk Flow Production Tracking.

Functionalities in this Python example code include:

  • An in-app content browser / Loader panel for access to your Flow Production Tracking projects (highly customizable)

  • Filter and search workflows (for navigating complex Flow Production Tracking projects)

  • Localization and linking options for connecting to media for imported playlists

  • Ability to ingest & convert Flow Production Tracking status fields into Hiero/Nuke Studio Tags (customizable)

  • Ability to screengrab on-screen annotations for submission back to Flow Production Tracking

  • An architecture to preview notes, then submit reviewer’s desired changes (annotations and notes) back to Flow Production Tracking

Concepts are customizable to additional schemas beyond Flow Production Tracking playlists and cuts, that can be tailored to suit in-house project structures. Foundry is sharing the source code for the Nuke Timeline Loader via GitHub — providing easy access for pipeline developers to start their custom implementations and testing.
