What's New in Flix 5.1

Flix 5.1 has several new features and feature enhancements in addition to bug fixes. This page documents the new features, to read about bug fixes and feature enhancements, navigate to a specific release.

General

The Re-comp with Nuke plug-in now allows you to try and rebuild the thumbnail for corrupt panels. This plug-in can be found inside the Export plug-in group.

Animated panels now have an icon to differentiate them from stills.

The list of versions displayed when comparing edits is now color-coded based on user name.

The versions popup now also shows panels related to the currently selected panel. For example, if an effect has been added in editorial to an existing Flix 5 panel, the reference panel from editorial is displayed along with the original panel. Similarly, a panel generated from a Master .psd file is related to this Master file if it’s present in Flix 5.

Flix 5 now supports international characters in Comments, Dialogues, and Shot Labels.

Note:  Comments, Dialogues, and Shot Labels created in Flix 5 5.1, or later, cannot be read correctly in earlier versions of Flix 5 if they contain international characters.

Editing

Two new scripts have been added to the Photoshop Scripts, Flix Select Previous and Flix Select Next. These allow you to change the selection in Flix 5 to the previous or next panel in the current edit straight from Photoshop before sending the new panel to Flix 5.

The Photoshop plug-in has been replaced by an Editing plug-in group containing the following plug-ins:

Photoshop (Layer Comps) - Opens the selected panel(s) in Photoshop, using Layer Comps if multiple panels are selected.

Photoshop (Timeline) - Opens the selected panel(s) in Photoshop, using the Timeline view if multiple panels are selected.

TV Paint - Opens the selected panel(s) in TV Paint.

Original Files - Reveals the original file for the selected panel(s) in the OS native file browser. For example, on Mac OS X, the file is located in Finder.

You can now open the selected panel(s) in TV Paint. If the panels originated in TV-Paint, Flix 5 opens your original TV-Paint file.

Editorial

Publishing to Avid now generates an ALE containing panel ordering information as well as dialogue changes.

Panels coming back from editorial as reference panels (ref) now relate to the original panel and are accessible through the Versions and Related panels pop-up.

Flix 5 now supports CTLs coming directly from the Avid 8.3 List tool.

The PSD to FCP plug-in now publishes an .xml to Premiere referencing the currently selected panel’s .psd files, rather than the HD .jpg files.

You can now publish from Editorial, on a per show or per sequence basis, to a specified branch using the editorialBranch parameter.

Export

A new Export CSV plug-in has been added to the Export plug-in group. Export CSV generates a .csv file containing all the information regarding the current sequence and its panels.

A new Flix 5 to Storyboard Pro plug-in has been added to the Export plug-in group. Flix 5 to Storyboard Pro generates an .xml from the entire Flix 5 edit that can be imported into Storyboard Pro as an Animatic Project.

Import

You can now import one or more .mov files in Flix 5 using the Import button, creating a new animated panel for each imported movie.

Storyboard Pro: It's now possible to export a StoryBoard Pro project directly to Flix 5. Still and animated panels are imported to the current Flix 5 edit.

Storyboard Pro: Panels created in StoryBoard Pro are now versioned up in Flix 5 if they already exist and have been edited in StoryBoard Pro.

Storyboard Pro: Camera moves from animated panels in StoryBoard Pro are now preserved when importing into Flix 5. They can then be accessed in the Nuke comp file by using the Export to Nuke plug-in on an animated panel from StoryBoard Pro.

StoryBoard Pro: A shot is now created in Flix 5 for every Scene created in StoryBoard Pro.

A new Technical Guide button has been added to the Manager page to open the Technical Guide from within Flix 5.
