Layers
Layers are the source of your paint textures in a project. Layers are created as part of a layer stack, which is in turn held within a specific channel. Each channel has a different layer stack that contains a new set of layers. You can create paint layers, layer masks, adjustments, procedurals, and layer groups within the Layers palette.
Adding a Layer to a Layer Stack

A new layer appears in the Layers palette, above any other layers in the layer stack.

Adding a Mask to a Layer

Layer Mask > Add Mask > RevealAll or From Alpha |

A layer mask is added to the selected layer in the Layers palette.

Adding an Adjustment to a Layer Stack

Adding a Procedural to a Layer Stack

Adding and Removing Layer Groups
To add one or more layer groups:

If you chose to add an empty layer group, this group is added as a new layer/folder in the Layers palette, above any other layers in the layer stack.
If you chose to group existing layers together in the layer stack, you must have one or more layers selected.

To remove one or more layer groups:
