Katana's new Performance tab enables users to debug their scenes more efficiently.

It can help give an indication as to where Katana is taking the most time to process a scene and help understand where time could be cut down to achieve a faster time to the first pixel.

You can see the number of nodes that exist in the project, along with the number of contributing and selected nodes.

You can also understand where bottlenecks may lie in your Node Graph by interpreting profiling information and check which nodes are taking more CPU time (cook time) as they are listed in the tab from most to least expensive.

You can view this information directly on the node graph with the help of a heat map. This will temporarily change the nodes’ colors to give a visual indication as to which nodes are the most “expensive.” This means you get a bird’s eye view to show you where you can focus on optimization.

By default, the color scheme for this goes from red (most expensive) to green (least). You can also change this to other color schemes to help bring out more subtle changes between nodes or to help users who may have issues seeing certain colors, such as color blindness.
