Share and Reuse Work with LiveShadingGroups
LiveShadingGroups let you share and reuse your work seamlessly between projects, assets, or other artists. Make something once and apply it to many different places.
The functionality of LiveShadingGroups is almost identical to that of LiveGroups, but instead of being able to collate whole projects or snippets of your Katana project into a single LiveGroup, only ShadingGroups can be added to a LiveShadingGroup. This means that LiveShadingGroups can only be used when inside a NetworkMaterial node such as NetworkMaterialEdit or NetworkMaterialCreate.
This extends Katana’s lookdev toolset for a more complete range of tools.
LiveShadingGroups are another piece of that puzzle that gives users the ability to share and reuse their work easily between projects, assets, or other artists.
You can now create templates for materials in Katana, meaning that once a material is created, it can be packaged into a LiveShadingGroup and shared endlessly between projects. This allows you to build up a library of materials that are ready to be used on import, cutting down the time needed for initial setup.
LiveShadingGoups can be used in conjunction with macros in order to create a library of materials/elements of your LookDev that you can quickly access. Plus, if the LiveGroup is updated and overwritten, the changes would be applied in multiple areas. For example, a brick material or elements of a skin material could be updated for one asset/character and applied across many. Like a LiveGroup, you can also stop other artists from modifying the contents by locking its contents to avoid any further changes being made.
This saves time, especially when these different materials exist in different Katana projects.
