Release Notes for Flix 8.1.2
Release Date
1 October 2026
For a detailed guide on upgrading to Flix 8.1.2, refer to the Upgrading to Flix 8.1.2 section at the bottom of this page.
Feature Enhancements
-
ID 623224 - Links to the Foundry support portals have been updated.
-
ID 625086 - If sentry is enabled, but no dsn’s are set, the issues are now sent to the Foundry sentry servers.
-
ID 625256 - A new experimental option has been added to the Flix config. Inside this section is an option for block_refs_to_aaf. If this is true, ref panels will not appear in the _new aaf file, matching the behaviour in the 7 series.
Bug Fixes
-
ID 590825 - The font_directory config option is no longer supported and will be removed in a future version. In it’s place is a new fonts section, where you can control the editorial font and size, and the fonts used for contact sheets. See the config.example.yml for a full example of usage.
-
ID 604909 - When sending dialogue from the Client API (for example, from the Storyboard Pro Extension), the dialogue editor will now update to reflect the changes without needing a refresh.
-
ID 610929 - The Flix player now correctly reflects the show frame rate.
-
ID 618661 - If a header response would be too large to potentially cause an error (specifically when using a proxy), pagination links are now removed from the header.
-
ID 618691 - Tweaked the config.example.yml file sentry: customer_id help to reflect what is actually supported.
-
ID 619028 - If a show has an aspect ratio of 0, it will now successfully upgrade.
-
ID 623912 - Moved the server generation of media object dimensions to happen as a background process (if they are missing), rather than on sequence revision load. This improves the initial load of sequence revisions to match previous Flix versions.
-
ID 623931 - Entering fullscreen mode in the player now ensures the application is fullscreen.
-
ID 625120 - Fixed a potential crash when resizing shots after undo.
Known Issues
-
FLIX-384 - Flix Server will fail to start if the font_directory option is set. Please note that in the 8 series this option does not have an affect. Please use the new fonts config options to set custom fonts.
System Requirements
Flix Server
Note: Flix Server is built and tested exclusively on Intel processors. Running the Flix Server on AMD processors may lead to unexpected runtime errors.
Warning: For security reasons, the date and time for the machine on which Flix Server is installed needs to be set correctly. This also applies to virtual machines. For more information, please refer to this Knowledge Base article.
Linux
Note: The volume where the /tmp directory resides should have at least twice as much free space as the largest AAF imported into Flix. We recommend at least 16 GB, which is enough for most studios.
The recommended requirements are:

Upgrading to Flix 8.1.2
This update requires end users to upgrade Flix Client to version 8.1.2.
If you're running a Mac with an ARM-based Apple Silicon processor and you want to switch to a version of Flix Client which uses Apple Silicon natively, you must download and install the Apple Silicon-specific Flix Client manually from:
https://www.foundry.com/products/flix/download
Note: If you use the Flix Client auto-update feature in a version earlier than 6.5.0, the client will be updated to the latest Intel version using Rosetta emulation.
Additionally, the new Transfer Utility port must be accessible on each server and all clients. The default port number is 9091, but the port can be changed by setting the client_transfer_port parameter in the config.yml file to a different port number. See Flix Server Options for more information.
From Flix 6.3.7, or Later
- DB upgrade (v29 -> v58) - see Upgrading Flix for more information.
- Photoshop Plugin update - see Manually Installing the Photoshop Plug-in for End Users for more information.
